Maintenance of a modern train using electronic systems
Engineers at Bombardier Transportation explain how electronic systems are built into a train as the carriages are assembled. Loading the software into the finished vehicle effectively 'brings it to life' as the computers take control of all the systems from the brakes to the doors. Once the train is in service, a new monitoring system allows the computers to send signals to a control room, showing the location of the train. It also indicates whether or not all the train's systems are working properly. If a problem is detected, the operators can take the train out of service for repair before it breaks down, causing delays.
