Gauri Sharma Tripathi trained in the classical tradition of Kathak under the guidance of her Guru and mother, Padma Sharma.
With Amara Nritya Kala Hansa and ANKH Dance UK, she produces events like Dancing Under the Skies, Kathak Stanzas and Kathak Collective. Her choreographic highlights include works for Akram Khan, Akademi and Sadler’s Wells. Gauri has developed a vision to forge a new generation of performers who see themselves as dancers, creators and entrepreneurs. Known for grounding her performance in the traditions of Kathak while giving it a contemporary viewpoint, she has toured her own solo pieces and has collaborated with Shlomo, a beat boxer, to create the first Kathak and beatboxing choir.
Gauri curates Alchemy Festival and is associated with The Women of the World festival. She wrote the three year degree course in Kathak for London Contemporary Dance School and was part of the team which founded ISTD South Asian dance. Gauri is presently part of the visiting faculty at Navdhara India Dance Theatre and The Danceworx, Mumbai.
