Travelling to school on an island

Description

A girl travels from her home on the Isle of Ulva to school in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. The journey involves a walk, a ferry trip, and a car and bus journey.

Classroom Ideas

Students could conduct a survey to find out how their classmates travel to school. A large pictogram or bar graph could be created to show the different methods of transport used. They could then analyse their data, discussing the most and least popular options and considering the reasons for this.

Alternatively, students could create a picture montage of their journey to school. They could draw pictures or take photographs of some of the things they saw along their way. These pictures could then be annotated to describe the sounds and smells. Students could then compare their journey with the girls in the clip. Does their journey take as long as hers?
