blog school
so yesterday the entire team (minus JP who is skiving this week) attended 'blogschool' for an hour in an attempt to turn this blog into the kind of hive of activity that we imagined it would be when we first started.
my neighbour jamie pointed out only this morning that 'there's not much activity on it, is there?' he told me this whilst standing outside his house with his son charlie brushing his teeth. i dont know why his kids always brush their teeth outside - do you get fewer cavities al fresco?
anyway, if jamie thinks that the blog is not updated often enough then we must do something about it. i dont want my reputation in the neighbourhood to suffer unecessarily. so, i'm happy to take suggestions on what you would really like to hear about. please simply place these topics in order of preference, starting with your favourites
a. anecdotes about eddie mair that show him in a good light
b. anecdotes about eddie mair that show him in a poor light
c. gossip from the office (they make Thinking Allowed, The Food Programme and the awesome In Our Time too you know)
d. gossip only about our team ( i wouldn't place this too highly - they seem rather well behaved)
e. more about jamie the next door neighbour
f. fascinating insights into how we choose the high quality items for our show
g. details of things i am throwing out in our house (having a bit of an early spring clean) we could do this like Freecycle if you like and you can claim things you want
do let me know
hugs in the meantime.
So what ! you will never be John Peel - we loved him and miss him still but what are all these green ink writing, Radio Times obsessed saddo's talking about.
Change my dears, change...
We lie in bed and come to gently with your dulcit tones. My old man of 28 years standing used to be quite inspired in the bedroom dept when you were on, on Sundays and I have great hopes for tomorrow ! (!!)
Did you ever play hockey at school - he thinks( fantasises about) you with blue knees being bossy on the hockey pitch ?
Perhaps you could inspire him to greater ' heights' tomorrow by shouting 'bully off at the crucial moment.
Your gratefully
Bev Gilder
Complain about this postPs you make me laugh too !!
Any gossip about Laurie Taylor will be gratefully recieved, and once I thought your on air link banter with Eddie could have made him the father of your child, but then I realised I was being silly. Gossip about him too though please, good or bad is fine, but he does do a great job of PM.
But, really I am commenting because I just heard Feedback, and Mark thingy did a great job of defending your honour, but I can't believe the good R4 listeners are dissing you Fi. In such circumstances it is as well to remember my mantra (one which I am sure Laurie would validate academically); change is hard for human beings, even good change, because all change involves a loss.
People are missing something they once had, in fact, if folk were to study their Kubler-Ross Loss/Change curve, they might find they are actually still in mourning for John Peel. Lots of Feedback about him too at the time, and they'll get over it, I love the show when I get up in time.
Complain about this postMay I brush aside the request for topic prioties by glibly saying "they're all good" and ask what is the music used at the beginning (?) and end of the programme, it is from some "FX" tape or created in a bit of 大象传媒 audio wizardry/witchery or is it from a tune?
Complain about this postFirstly Eddie Mair is wonderful.
Secondly you are wonderful.
Thirdly the criticisms on Feedback were uncalled for. Your programme is the best thing to happen to Saturday morning since I discovered Waitrose!
Does this help with your blog popularity?
Mary
PS My husband was incandescent with rage at the comments on Feedback! He hated Home Truths with a passion that only a Yorkshireman can truly experience. (he says Luv Frank xx)
Complain about this postI am a blog beginner too, but definitely wanted to join in with the debate on childcare and women and work vs home!. I have just heard Kirstie Alsopp being interviewed having just given birth and was so keen to wish my congratulations and join in with this debate which is so relevant and close to my heart, that I jumped straight on the computer (children running round my feet demanding Ceebeebies!) however I forgot that you need time to put the blog introduction on the internet!
Complain about this postHi Fi
Complain about this postLovely show but, my dear, in the blog please find the caps key.
This is not TXT and u r not an illiterate teenager, no need to type like one.
tnx
I could not believe what I was hearing on feedback yesterday. I suspect it was more of an anger reaction at losing Home Truths than a thoughtful criticism of Saturday Live
The point is that Home Truths could not continue without John Peel and to replace him with a John Peel sound-alike had not and would not have not worked.
I was hoping Fi would come back to BH after her absence but Saturday Live is a fine alternative platform for her wickedly humorous style. Its just a shame its on a Saturday as there is so much to do on Saturday mornings!
Please keep it up
Complain about this postFi, don't listen to the old fogies wittering about Home Truths, some people fear change, others embrace it. John Peel made the program his own and without him it is not even a monument to him.
The childcare debate rages on, human beings, for some reason, need to feel superior to each other instead of accepting each other. I am in no doubt that self regard is formed by being very close for most of the day to people who love us and care for us and it is incredibly important in our earliest years.
May I commence the list of things I am throwing out as part of the pre-Xmas sprint clean?
a corner tv stand, silver grey with middle shelf of smoked glass.
Can deliver in East Berkshire
Best wishes
