I was so interested to hear David Gardiner's philosophy on life! Although this sounds very ernest I totally agree with him and believe many people could benefit from his wish that others would learn empathy by trying to walk in another person's shoes. What a change in society's thinking if this was encouraged early in life. Not as a soft option to avoid people taking responisbility for their inappropriate actions but to enable us to bring out the best in someone and encourage more positive behaviour. I think Mr Gardiner showed an enormous sense of human understanding and social responsibility! How refreshing!
Complain about this postDavid Gardiner expressed his philosophy in a measured, compassionate manner. A manner which does credit to broadcasting. We need to hear more about our positive attributes; that human beings in their everyday lives do act responsibly towards each other with kindness and compassion.
Regular and measured reporting of our positive qualities is sorely needed to counter-balance the daily reporting of human atrocities and anti-social behaviour.
I was reminded of the quote: 'All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing'. Hearing Mr Gardiner's philosophy on national radio is a good start.
Complain about this post'Walk a mile in the other person's shoes' - what marvellous philosophy and a great image too - but so easy to mock! I so much enjoyed that poem on this theme which ended up with dressing up in your sister's clothes but being too embarassed to walk that mile! Can you send me a copy of this ditty, or tell me how I can access this again?
Complain about this postThank you so much for the item on David Garner's gesture that not only got his property returned but allowed someone to make a deep change in their behaviour that would improve the quality of their life and those that might have become victims of his criminal activity.
Complain about this postWalking a mile in someone's shoes is not always necessary for change it seems but sometimes an unexpected step from a compassionate and courageous person can work wonders it seems!

Two little philosophy's I've picked up during my 52 years and that (sometimes) help.
Complain about this post1) It's only a problem if you think it's a problem.
Try it to disolve those troubled feelings about small 'issues'. It can make them look smaller.
2)'Look beyond it'. If you're worried about an exam or an operation or something like that try to think 'In ... (e.g.1 hour ) it'll be behing me'. It's amazing how quickly things can pass, and then no longer be a problem!
