“The trust was set up, through Sir Ronald’s father, Sir Malcolm Stewart, and, erm, it was x amount of money, left erm, to build homes for workforce, retired workforce, and erm, at first there was just 24 homes built. And they’re free, they were free, no rent to pay. It’s a thank you really, it was a gift, that’s how Sir Malcolm put it, a gift to his employees. It is a particular erm, will that has been left, so it is stipulated what the requirements are. But over the years, obviously things like years service, you cannot do 50 over years service now, ‘cos you don’t start work ‘til you’re older anyway, and also you usually leave earlier. And so, we look at now, at their needs more than anything, how they cope with stairs and that type of thing. But we don’t jeopardise people for buying their houses, ‘cos they still qualify just the same as anybody else. And everybody who worked at London Brick knew about these bungalows, and were always put in the picture about them, so they all feel that they have got that to fall back on.”
