The House of Tiny Tearaways
Programme set-up

The Setting
听
Observing children's behaviour behind two way mirrors is a long-established
psychological technique for ensuring children are relaxed and natural
in their play and interaction with each other.
听
Filming in this way is actually far less invasive and intrusive, particularly
for young children, than filming with cameramen, sound recordists and
crew around them.
听
Safeguarding the children
听
The safety and welfare of the children involved was
a primary objective and consideration for the production team from the
outset of this project. To this end, Dr
Tanya Byron and other programme consultants were enlisted.
听
Dr Byron is one of the UK's leading clinical psychologists.
She is regarded by her peers as having personally been responsible for
improving British parents' understanding of relationships with their
children, and in helping hundreds of thousands of families interact
in a more positive way with their young children.
听
Assisting Dr Byron in her clinical assessments of the
families in this series, and providing an off-screen second opinion
for her programme of treatment, is Dr Jo Douglas, a
child clinical psychologist who has been working in private practice
since 2000. Prior to that she was Head of the Psychology Service at
Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, where she worked for 27 years.
听
Psychological screening of families
听
Before the families are presented to Dr Byron for her
consideration, the short-listed families are all psychologically screened
by Judith Lask, a leading Family and Systemic Psychotherapist.
She is a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist and the Chair of the Association
for Family Therapy.
