I love watching Strictly with my young daughters; so few programmes have family overlap these daysJeremy Vine
Jeremy began his career in 1986 as a trainee reporter at the Coventry Evening Telegraph, in the days of manual typewriters and hot metal presses. He made his name a few years later as a reporter on the 大象传媒 Radio 4 programme . During his time there he filed reports from all over Europe and the Middle East. Jeremy was sent to Siberia to interview a ballistics missile expert, was ambushed in Croatia when war broke out in Yugoslavia and tried to buy a fighter jet from an arms dealer in Russia.
After his stint on Today, Jeremy became a political correspondent before joining . The report he is most proud of was his exclusive for Newsnight in 1999 on South African police brutality. The film won the Silver Nymph at Monte Carlo, and resulted in the suspension of 22 police officers. After that, Jeremy joined Newsnight full-time as a presenter.
Other career highlights include his award-winning episode on the Shannon Matthews abduction which drew a record audience figure and, in 2010, his 大象传媒 Radio 2 show provided the defining image of the general election when the then Prime Minister Gordon Brown put his head in his hands as he listened to a tape of him calling a voter a bigot.
Jeremy was born in Epsom in May 1965 and went to Epsom College and Durham University where he studied English. While at university he edited the student newspaper and presented a late night show on Metro Radio. He’s since gone on to be named Speech Broadcaster of the Year at the Sony Awards in 2005 and 2011.
Jeremy is married to 大象传媒 News presenter . They have two daughters, Martha (11) and Anna (8) and he is the brother of Tim Vine, a successful comedian.
