Born in Birmingham in 1981, Jamelia Niela Davis grew up in the Handsworth area of the city with her mum Paulette.

Her talent was spotted at a very young age, when record producers heard her a capella songs she had self-recorded on a karaoke machine at home. She signed her first major record deal straight out of school at 15.

In 1999 her music career really took off when she released her debut single, So High, followed by I Do but it is her third single, Money, that is considered her breakthrough hit, reaching number five in the UK charts, and winning her the Best Video gong at the 2000 MOBO Awards.

In 2004, she had three more top five hits all from her album Thank You – the worldwide hit Superstar which reached number three, Thank You which went to number two, and See It In A Boy’s Eye which was co-written with Coldplay’s Chris Martin and reached number five.

Jamelia later returned to the Top Ten with the single Stop, her track for the second .

Her continued chart success led to her being invited to support acts from the US, including , and on their massive world tours.

She has won four MOBO awards, including Best UK act and Best British Female. She has also performed at the MOBOS and co-hosted them in 2007. She has won a Q award and has been nominated for nine Brit Awards.

Jamelia has also been in demand as a model, and has been the cover girl for Harpers and Queen, Cosmpolitan and Elle magazines.

In 2008 Jamelia made her first documentary for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Three,, which looked at the hair extension industry. She followed that up in 2011 with another hard-hitting ´óÏó´«Ã½ Three documentary, .

She joined the judging panel on in 2013, and in the same year was given a seat on ITV1’s popular chat show Loose Women.

Earlier this year Jamelia took part in Bear Grylls’ latest adventure show , where she had to overcome her phobias of spiders, birds and water and learn how to survive in the wild.

Jamelia is also very active in her charity working with ActionAid, Princes Trust and the World Food programme. Away from the spotlight Jamelia still lives in Birmingham with her two daughters, Teja and Tiani.
