Luthando Qave is in his final year of the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera New York, after studying at the University College of Opera in Stockholm. He was a semi-finalist in the 2009 Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition and a finalist in the 2010 Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition.

Luthando was a member of Cape Town Opera where he played Marco Gianni Schicchi and Melchior Amahl and the Night Visitors. In 2006, he made his European debut on tour with CTO in Sweden as Jake Porgy and Bess.

Recent highlights include Nardo La finta giardiniera in Drottningholm and Marcello La bohème in Tel-Aviv. In 2011/2012, he made his Met debut singing Yamadori Madama Butterfly and this year Guglielmo in the Met and Juilliard School’s joint production of Così fan tutte. He returns to the Met stage as Herald Otello, Fiorello Il barbiere di Siviglia and a Flemish Deputy Don Carlo. In April this year Luthando sang Silvio Pagliacci at Finnish National Opera.

In New York, Luthando has worked with artists including James Levine, Fabio Luisi, Placido Domingo, Renata Scotto, Sir Thomas Allen, Ramon Vargas and Gerald Finley.

Luthando enjoys his Playstation and reading biographies.

Amor, vida de me vida (Maravilla) - Morena Torroba

Rafael is in love with Elvira, who in turn loves Faustino. She has said goodbye to Rafael, and now his life is over. He is sad, but she is laughing. He loved her, she lied to him, she mocks his grief. Torroba’s zarzuela premiered in Madrid in 1941 and this is one of the most famous arias in the Spanish language.
