As a boy, Adam started attending auctions with his grandfather, who used to buy and sell violins. He was only 10 when he made his first bid at an auction, buying a little painting of a mill scene for £15 which he still has at home. At 17, he bought a van and started attending auctions. He was only 10 when he made his first bid.

At 18 he went to Oxford University to study Classics but left after a year to become a porter in an auction room, working his way up to become an auctioneer, starting his first auction room in his early twenties. He now owns and runs his own chain of auction rooms in the North West with branches in Liverpool, Macclesfield and Altrincham. Current auction record is £210,000 achieved for an early 18th century Hebrew manuscript.
Musical instruments have always been a passion of Adam’s – his mum and dad were professional violinists and Adam plays to a professional level himself. He even taught violin before setting up as an auctioneer and still teaches his older son.
In 1998, Adam worked as an auctioneer on cruise liners in the Caribbean and this is where he met his wife Clare. They have two sons and live on a former smallholding in Cheshire with their chickens, dogs, and cat.
Adam is also a qualified cricket coach and coaches children (including his own!) at a local club as well as supporting/sponsoring the youth cricket academy on the island of Dominica.
