Gaston Rivero was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. He studied at the National Conservatory of Music, Buenos Aires, Argentina; at the Westchester Music Conservatory, White Plains, New York; and at the Renata Scotto Opera Academy, New York. His vocal teacher was Ira Siff, and his coaches have included Lucy Arner and Alfredo Bonavera in New York, and Susana Cardonet in Argentina.

He was the winner in the New Jersey Alliance of Performing Artists, the Palm Beach Opera Vocal Competition, the Altamura/Caruso International Voice Competition and the Joyce Dutka Vocal Competition (all 2004), and he has won numerous other competitions and awards.

His roles have included Trin La fanciulla del West and Primo Cantore La Gioconda for Carnegie Hall Opera Orchestra of New York; Duca Rigoletto for Altamura Center for the Performing Arts, Rodolfo for La boh猫me on Broadway; Mister Rifleso Blackout (Scarcella), Ernesto Don Pasquale for New York University, Mignon (Ambroise Thomas) with Opera Orchestra of New York in Carnegie Hall, April 2005, and Tribute to Tosti at Carnegie Hall.

He has also sung in concert performances of Mozart's Vesperae Solennes de Confessores in Carnegie Hall, and other concerts in Carnegie Hall and the Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Centre.

He enjoys fishing and going to the movies.
