A late 19th century England football cap from our Trentham Gardens Roadshow

Cristian’s passion is sculpture, particularly works from the Mediaeval period to the late 19th-century. His degree in Classical Art serves him well in the field of antiquities, with souvenirs of the Grand Tour being another area usefully served by his studies. He works now as a Director and Joint Head of Furniture at Bearnes, Hampton and Littlewood in Devon.
Cristian was delighted to come across a very fine bronze by the 19th century French sculptor Rene de Saint-Marceaux at his first outing as an expert on Antiques Roadshow. He also thoroughly enjoyed discussing a late 19th century England football cap with a young man at Trentham Gardens, who was far more interested in his rugby, but nonetheless extremely proud of his Stoke City and England playing great-great-grandfather.
Cristian’s dream find would be a sculpted marble tazza by the workshops of Boschetti, or a previously undiscovered bronze from Renaissance or Baroque Italy.
