听听Listen to an interview with Benedicte Roubert and hear the chant.
After the world cup in '98, every French person, even the women, were excited about football. In Paris there was a big screen in front of the city hall. When France won everybody was in the streets, along the Champs Elys茅es singing and drinking. The atmosphere was electrifying and we were all very united. It was a brilliant feeling, particularly because France had been hit hard with an economic crisis so when we succeeded, we were all out on the streets celebrating this new birth!
We've got a song for the French team which is in English and based on Gloria Gaynor's classic anthem, 'I Will Survive' but we have French songs that we sing in the stadiums. We chant, 'Go on, go on When the rows start to sing all the stadiums become great'.
For the last World Cup we were singing 'Et un, et deux, et trois zero' because we won three nil against Brazil.
Usually people watch the match at their homes but during the World Cup they were at the bar or down on the streets and they were drinking. It was a very friendly atmosphere with everybody chatting together, over drinks with family and friends - just a cosy atmosphere!
Here in Manchester where I'm a student, I'll be watching the games with friends at home.
Quand le virage se met a chanter
C'est tout the stade qui va s'en flammer
Allez allez, allez allez
Allez allez le stande allez.
