Loch Fad - Pea Soup

Loch Fad - Isle of Bute

The edge of Loch Fad was a thick, greenish sludge, a bit like green paint or pea soup. I don't know if this was algae or something to do with the fish-farming in the middle.

I think you'll find a boat crewed by an owl and a pussycat has emptied its bilges into Loch Fad

Looks like a variation of Blue Green Algea, may be that the feed and or pesticide used by fish farm has changed the eco balance of the Loch

Ferry Louper from Glasgow

This is green algae that appears on many lochs that do not have "fish farms" it gets blown to edges where it accumulates. This is not a fish farm merely holding nets to stock for angling on Loch Fad.

Yes we get the same stuff on local lakes. The wind churns it up into a froth. Looks like green paint

Kevin Stuart from Carlisle

Certainly blue green algae, probably a mixture of species (cyanobacteria scientifically speaking) Potentially toxic - keep pets and kids away from it if they swallow any - straight to the doc -i t could be that dangerous. Isn't anybody up there testing for these things? Where were the warning signs?
