FW de Klerk - Agent of change

Frederik de Klerk, the last white president of apartheid South Africa from 1989 to 1994, holds a conference commemorating the 20th anniversary of his historic address to parliament announcing the release of Nelson Mandela on February 2, 2010 in Cape Town.

One man instrumental in dismantling apartheid, despite being a part of the racist system, was former South African president FW de Klerk.

It was his government that ordered Mr Mandela's release.

As part of our special coverage to mark twenty years since Nelson Mandela walked free from 27 years in prison, we talked to the former president about that critical time in South African history.
