Amundsen, Scott and Shackleton are famous names from the epic age of polar exploration early last century.

Another name is less well known.

Swedish geologist Otto 狈辞谤诲别苍蝉办箩枚濒诲 set off in 1901 with the intention of spending the Antarctic winter on the ice.

In the event it became a much longer tale of hardship and remarkable coincidence.
