Desalination Across the globe, demand for fresh water is outstripping supply. Is desalination the answer?
In this programme, Gareth Mitchell investigates desalination. He visits a state-of-the-art desalination plant in Barcelona which will eventually provide the city with 250 million litres of fresh water a day. Desalination technology is often criticised because high levels of energy are needed to remove the salt. But as the technology improves, will it soon be possible to desalinate water more cheaply?
