1) My 18 year old son has made a tradition of 'lock jumping' on christmas day. For the past few years he - and an increasing number of friends - don Santa hats and swimming cozy's and jump in hertford lock. Mum's dad's etc's line the bank with towels and hot drinks, and then we go home for mulled wine and mince pies!
Complain about this post2) My wife and I did some rafting down the river Inn from St Moritz towards Innsbruck and during the 4 hour journey we jumped off the raft and had the most fabulous (and speedy!) river swim - yes, it's a brilliant experience not to be missed!
The swimmers jumped off just near the bridge at Days Lock which they omitted to mention as the venue for the annual international Poohsticks competition. also the land is not common land or (usually) watermeadow (the river is just particularly high at the moment) but farm land usually with cattle and the odd bull on it
Complain about this postI went swimming with kate rew from the same spot, it was a wonderful and refreshing experience. So different from swimming in a pool that it almost seems strange to swim in Chlorine now
Complain about this postHello!
Complain about this postI was really interested in your comments about open water swimming - I am also a big fan myself.
I am currently training to be a landscape architect and once qualified want to build natural swimming ponds which are currently just getting known in the UK. Have you heard of these? They are basically swimming pools which are cleaned by aquatic plants as opposed to chlorine. There are currently 30 built in the UK in domestic settings - I would love to build a public one like they have in Europe.
Would you be interested in discussing these ideas with me? I have brought a domain name but haven't got any details on it yet. Would you be interested in being featured on the site at all? It would be great to have some case studies of people who champion open water swimming.
Hope to hear from you.
