A letter from Lord Nelson discussing a sheep that was present at the Battle of Trafalgar and went on to win medals

Matthew is head of the Book Department at the international auctioneers, Bonhams, having joined the London department in 2004. Focusing on all varieties of books, but with side interests in space exploration and 19th century photography, he spent four years in Bonhams New York and Los Angeles salerooms, before returning to the UK in 2013.
The most memorable item Matthew has seen was a letter from Lord Nelson discussing a sheep that was present at the Battle of Trafalgar and went on to win medals – proof that the Antiques Roadshow’s capacity for turning up the weird and wonderful is undiminished.
His ‘dream find’ would be Shakespeare’s autograph, or, failing that, an album by the Victorian photographer Julia Margaret Cameron.
