"Nature is full of surprises, so the programme can investigate fascinating and challenging areas in
our relations with the natural world without being too technical or preachy. My job is brilliant because, as a link between the listener and the subject, I can discover new information and ideas which help people make up their own minds on important issues."

Foal and flower on camomile lawn in the New Forest |
New Forest; ancient landscape
These days, the New Forest听 is seen largely as a holiday playground.听 Nevertheless, it is one of the oldest landscapes in the country and has survived thanks to the ancient system of laws and land rights instigated when William the Conqueror decided to keep it for himself as a royal hunting park.听
Some thousand years later, the New Forest has now been designated a National Park and in this week's Nature , Paul Evans uncovers the story of this often underestimated landscape and asks whether its new designation will help to protect it for a thousand years to come.听
