UPS AND DOWNS
Out National Parks in England and Wales are famous for their dramatic landscapes and natural beauty, but how important is wildlife and habitat conservation within their boundaries?
Paul Evans visits Dartmoor National Park to see at first hand how the Park Authority is caring for rare damselflies and horseshoe bats.
But he also learns that Sites of Special Scientific Interest are faring less well in our, mainly upland, National Parks than in the countryside around.
Paul talks to ecologists and park managers about the challenges of nature conservation, and visits the South Downs, which is tipped to become the next National Park , to hear how a butterfly is playing a central role in visions for its future.
