8 pop stars who were too sick to perform their own shows
If anyone with a normal job feels a bit poorly, it's usually not a big deal to take a day off work.
But if you're a major pop star touring the world, phoning in sick is a bit trickier as there are hundreds or sometimes thousands of people waiting for you to show up and do your job.
But, it happens to the best of them. Here are 8 major stars who have been too sick to perform at their own gigs.
Drake
Drake cancelled his gig in Amsterdam (again)
...And we pity the poor lady who had to tell the crowd he wasn't going to perform.
Third time's the charm, isn't that what they say? Well, not for Drake fans in Amsterdam.
He postponed a gig for the third time after he became too ill to perform. The news didn't go down too well with the people who had been waiting for 75 minutes for the show to start.
"I'm really sorry to tell you that tonight's gig cannot take place," said a spokesperson for the tour promoter.
"Drake got sick. His doctor told him not to perform."
Some fans, who had flown to Amsterdam especially for the show, were understandably
One Direction
One Direction managed to continue with their career when Zayn Malik quit the band, but when Liam Payne fell ill in Ireland the boyband decided that performing as a three-piece was a no-go.
1D cancelled their Belfast gig in October 2015 shortly before the gig was due to start, leaving a stadium full of disappointed young fans.
"Deepest apologies to everyone at the show tonight in Belfast," wrote Harry Styles on Twitter in an apology to fans.
"Very disappointed, but unfortunately these things happen. We're very sorry."
Little Mix
work as a four-piece or not at all (), so when Jesy Nelson fell during their tour in 2016, there was only one option for the girlgroup.
They cancelled two shows in Belfast minutes after the doors had opened to fans at their afternoon gig, who received a text message to tell them about the cancellation.
"Sadly Jesy is unwell and unable to sing," said a statement from the girls on Twitter.
Some fans with tickets told the 大象传媒 had
Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber is one of the hardest touring stars on the planet, so it's not a surprise that he was forced to pull out of a show at the last minute in 2015.
He was set to perform at New York City's Thanksgiving Day Parade and a TV appearance, but cancelled at the last minute. He didn't give a particular reason but hinted at personal problems being to blame.
"I won't be able to make it to NYC tomorrow for the show," he tweeted.
"Thanks for the understanding as sometimes life kicks our ass and we need to deal with it."
Meghan Trainor
Poor old Meghan Trainor was told to quit her 2016 tour by a doctor, who put her on "strict vocal rest" at a time when she needed those vocals the most.
"This absolutely kills me because I was so excited to see all of you on the road," Meghan wrote on Instagram.
"I'm going to go home and rest so I can get back to see you all as soon as I can."
She promised she would see fans in 2017, but is yet to announce new live shows.
Selena Gomez
Fans of Selena Gomez in the UK and Ireland missed out their chance to see the singer live when she cancelled five concerts in late 2016.
Selena developed mental health issues while she was on her Revival tour, side effects of lupus, which she also suffers from.
"I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges" Selena said in a statement.
"I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off."
Charlie Puth
Poor old Charlie Puth is just getting started in the pop world but he was forced to cancel a string of live shows on his Don't Talk tour in 2016.
After performing some of his shows, he was struck down with exhaustion and had to cancel the remaining gigs.
"This is the last thing I want because I love being on the road performing and meeting every one of you," he said in a message to disappointed fans.
"I have been extremely sick pushing through these dates and haven’t been [taking] the time my body needs to recover. Resting and taking time off the road is the only way I can get better and start performing for you again."
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift was struck down with bronchitis in 2011, which is a nightmare when your job is singing for two hours every night.
She was forced to postpone two US shows in North Carolina and Atlanta and said the decision to cancel 'broke her heart.'
"I would never cancel if I thought I was physically able to perform these shows," she said in a statement.
"I am so sorry to the fans, but I look forward to seeing you when we come back through your towns, which we will do."
