One of the main awards has now been decided by you the audience. The winner will be announced at the Poll Winners concert in March. A huge thanks to all those who contributed. It was wonderful to see such a wide-ranging list of nominations (left) and the way so many of the musicians have touched your lives.
Here are the bands who were voted onto the final shortlist. Click on each name to read more about them and click on the 'listen' icon to hear a selected track from each band. A large selection of your comments can be found by clicking on the list to the left.
Jon Essex, Winchester:
'I have seen Martin in four concerts during 2002 in four different guises (Brass Monkey, With Norma, With Swarb and in English Roots). Each performance was a gem - the man is a genius! I have seen and listened to music from all over the world during the year, but this year Martin has given me more pleasure than anyone.'
Alan Perkins, Eastleigh:
'A man who has done more for the cause of British traditional music than almost anyone else of his generation. He has worked tirelessly to bring the music back to the people that it came from.'
Marc Appleton, London:
'Martin has been a mainstay and inspiration, spanning generation, gender and location. His legacy will continue to inspire.'
