One of the main awards has now been decided by you the audience. The winner will be announced at the Poll Winners concert in March. A huge thanks to all those who contributed. It was wonderful to see such a wide-ranging list of nominations (left) and the way so many of the musicians have touched your lives.
Here are the bands who were voted onto the final shortlist. Click on each name to read more about them and click on the 'listen' icon to hear a selected track from each band. A large selection of your comments can be found by clicking on the list to the left.
I Z Mutandwa:
'Tuku's music is the best as it tracends race and all other bariers in the world today.'
Mitz Takahashi, Canada:
'Smooth warm guitar and warm sound. I get lost in the music's warmness.'
Scott Stevens, USA:
'Tuku always deals with important social issues in his music, yet it's always positive and danceable. The documentary Shanda is an inspiration and a joy, and the soundtrack is one of my favorite CDs of 2002.'
Phil Lees, Manchester:
'I saw him perform a concert at the Zion centre in Manchester last year and was completely blown away. One of the most vibrant and energetic concerts I have ever been to!'
Alan Martin, Croydon:
'Tuku is simply the best live act we have today - anyone who was lucky enough to see his London show will surely agree.'
