James A, 35
Secondary School Science Teacher - Cornwall
James is a secondary-school science teacher with a PhD in Cell Biology, who loves astrophotography and paddle boarding. Diagnosed with a benign growth in the right side of his head aged 22, James opted to have it removed. He suffered partial hearing loss but threw himself into finishing his degree in Applied Genetics, achieving first class honours, and then going on to do his PhD. After four years as a research scientist specialising in skin cancer, his enthusiasm for sharing knowledge convinced James to become a teacher. James lives in Cornwall with his wife and two young children where he also keeps bees, and is training to be a lifeguard.
