National Numeracy ambassadors Bobby Seagull, Rachel Riley and Martin Lewis saw an ad that said "Cinema prices increased by 20% in year 1 and 20% in year 2, so an overall increase of 40%". However our National Numeracy ambassadors say that it is 44% overall. Why are they correct?
Today's #PuzzleForToday has been set by National Numeracy, the charity established to help raise low levels of numeracy among both adults and children and they celebrate the National Numeracy Day Virtual Festival next week on Wednesday 13 May.

You have multiply 1.20 x 1.20 = 1.44. This is a 44% increase as the increases are compounded not simple percentage increase.
