If the mean score of 30 pupils in a maths test was 140 marks and the total of 29 of the pupils was 4042. What was the mark of the 30th pupil?

30 pupils with mean of 140, so total number of marks is 30 * 140, which equals 4200. If 29 pupils scored 4042, then the 30th would have scored 4200 – 4042, which equals 158.
