"There is no substitute for one-to-one advice from a听top medical expert and that's what we offer our callers and emailers. But for each person who calls to ask for help, someone else phones in to pass on a tip or a suggestion -听it's a great programme to present."

Anaesthesia
In this week's episode of Check Up, Barbara Myers invites listeners to call in and email with their questions about anaesthesia.
Anyone who's ever had any kind of medical operation, from a filling in the teeth to major surgery, has received some kind of anaesthetic.听
Even though anesthetics听are used in medicine听every day听there's a great deal that's still not known about how they actually work.
Some people suffer with side effects after coming round from an anaesthetic.
The common problems are feeling sick, dizzy or shivery, or suffering general aches and pains.听
Other side effects can be听blurred vision, drowsiness, a sore throat, a headache and breathing difficulties.
Are you about to undergo a procedure which will require an听anaesthetic?听听
Are you wondering how you should prepare for an anaesthetic, or concerned about听its effects听during and after the procedure?听
Do you have听questions about any after-effects of anaesthesia that听you may be experiencing?听
Barbara Myers will be joined by Dr David Wilkinson, Consultant Anaesthetist at St Bartholomew's Hospital,听London听to answer these and other questions about anaesthetics.
Contact the Programme Check Up听 is your opportunity to ask an expert about the condition. If you have a question, contact us by calling 0870 010 0444 from 1.30pm - 3.30pm on the day of broadcast or by emailing听 the programme - see 'Contact Check Up' link above.
