April already?

Hi I.B ers sorry about the long delay, but the last few weeks have been not kind I have left the job in the Auto car centre not for me, people were terrible........so I'm back doing things on the house again as the weather is getting better and a little drier.

The Chickens are now laying our fresh Free range eggs which is great and doing 2 a day, we managerd to get rid of 2 x Silkie Cocks so we have 2 x hens and 2 x cocks so Sarah and I are getting another 2 hens when availible, they seem to like thier new coop

I have now managed to get the front garden more established with the gravel path moving around to the side of the property so the soggy ground is getting a little better, thus removing more stones from our old ruin (back breaking) ;o) well almost.

The polytunnel frame is now up, this took longer than exspected due to the wet weather, now awaiting the warmer weather to get the skin on.

Oh and I finished the decoration to the front of the house this weekend, not bad for 4 days work in between bad weather, looks a little different from the house we bought but feel like my arms are fulling off I cant believe that it will nearly be a year in June since we came here.

Sorry it taken so long to get intouch but there just does not seem enought hours in the day......Be back very soon Fred

Hey Fred, great to hear from you. Sorry the job didn't work out. Your house looks fantastic now, you must be SO pleased! And the hens are so big! Can they get into the shed too? (Is that a hen-flap? FC would approve of that!) Enjoy your free range eggs, best wishes to you all.

Jill from EK

A hen-flap eh? No thank-you very much. Hens is big squawky-pecky things and a sensible cat would keep them at arm's length. The house is looking purrfect Mr Fred. I love the way you've kept true to the traditional and yet enhanced it beyond recognition. It's a wee gem.

Flying Cat from Grand Auto Theft

What a splendid poultry house (I mean the green one). The white house is fit for a king, or a Fred and family. The reason you don't have enough hours in the day to blog may be connected with the pristine lustre on your buildings. Gerat work, Fred!

Barney from Swithiod lover of architecture

Hi Jill, Nice to hear from you again....yes you got it right the new hen house is now included in the back end of my workshop through the little door, so now its really dry and the winds wont blow them away. The locals all think the house lookd great now after sitting domant for so many years, It's all been worth it but as you know i'm not finished yet lol

Fred from Point

Fpu will be lifting and splitting primulas incl. cowslips in a month or so if you're interested in having any.

Flying Cat from eyeing the garden with intent

thanks FC, your right our cat Noodle wont even go close to the hens almost as big as her...glad you like the house. Also Barney thanks for your comment's I do like attention to detail if its possible.

Fred from Point

Fred that's not a chicken-house, its a chicken luxury Hotel ...!! With their own private entrance as well ... I'm glad my ducks can't see that picture, they'd be up in arms in no time ... :-)

soaplady from totally green with envy

hey fred(and sarah) i was just thinking about you two the other day and wandering how you were getting on. Glad to see your doing well. :-)

tanith from point

I'd like to see a duck up in arms...maybe the first time one spots a mink in the trap...

Flying Cat from mostly 'armless

That's Fred for you, maniacally tidy. Note the garbage cans conveniently by the door: no mess of any kind inside the house. If child does not wipe face pronto, out goes the child, face and all, into the garbage can. (Kidding, Fred). Take good care, Fred old boy, and have a very nice spring. May your tatties grow to be the size of Idaho potatoes ...

mjc from NM,USA

Hi MJC, LOL the bins have been moved away now from the house as we dont have to tread through mud, the poly tunnel is now up and ready for planting, oh you will have to send me a couple of Idaho potatoes are they BIG?

Fred from Point

MJC....lol I have moved those bins now so looks alittle better as we have pathways, Oh how about sending me a couple of those Idaho Potatoes are they BIG Ones as I do like a jacket Spud. Soaplady....Its funny that when we changed the hens into the workshop sectioned off they seem to settle better as the cocks were nesting in the box and the poor hens left on the ground.

Fred from Point

Duck in Arms is the name of a pub (or should be). The usual warm beer, served in tumblers no doubt, and microwaved frozen fish and chips. Extra charges for the retro ambience. No, no roast duck at the Duck in Arms. Thank you, I'll stick to The Three Tuns or, perhaps less bourgeois, but with revolutionary frisson, The Queen's Head.. There is always the hospitable and cozy pub in Sanday: a future hot spot once Hermit brings her dancing number there.

the house (your white one) and garden look great a reward for all the hard work,

island threads from ness

Thanks I.T not quite there yes I have to put on the 2 car parking port, and tidy up the garden, the Rye grass seeds are in and will start taking soon...then I have to make my potatoes beds....never a dull moment.

Fred from Point

Hi Fred see you have been busy, by the time you finish there won't be anything else to do on the Isle of Lewis, pity about the work not a lot going on down south either Yeah' Fred I'm looking to put up a poly tunel out the back! where did you get yours from, Regards, George & George
