"I spend half my week practising medicine and the other half writing and talking about it as a GP in Gloucestershire. Working on Case Notes has been a boon for both me and my patients. One of the principal aims of the programme is to keep our listeners up-to-date with the latest developments in healthcare, and to accomplish that I get to interview a wide range of specialists at the cutting edge of medicine. A rare privilege that ensures our listeners aren't the only ones to learn something new."

Indigestion
If you're feeling a bit dyspeptic after the excesses of Christmas, then this edition of Case Notes is just what the doctor ordered, because Dr Mark Porter will be looking at indigestion (or heartburn or dypepsia).
It's an extremely common, and often very distressing problem.
听
4 out of 10 people will have suffered from dyspepsia at least once in the last 12 months.
Treatment
The vast majority of sufferers never go near a doctor, preferring to self-medicate with over-the-counter remedies.
In a typical year we spend over a 拢100 million on antacids and other remedies.
But are we spending our money wisely? And when should dyspepsia prompt a visit to the doctor rather than the pharmacist?
A听cure for good?
We talk to a surgeon who is pioneering a new key-hole technique that could provide a life-long cure for acid reflux - for children as well as adults.
Acid reflux cough
If you suffer from a persistent nagging cough - particularly when you talk, laugh, or after you have eaten a meal - then it's probably due to a problem with your gullet, rather than your chest.
There could be surprisingly simple solution.
Dr Mark Porter meets one of the world's leading authorities on acid reflux cough and finds out why his clinic in Hull has become so popular.
