"I spend half my week practising medicine and the other half writing and talking about it as a GP in Gloucestershire. Working on Case Notes has been a boon for both me and my patients. One of the principal aims of the programme is to keep our listeners up-to-date with the latest developments in healthcare, and to accomplish that I get to interview a wide range of specialists at the cutting edge of medicine. A rare privilege that ensures our listeners aren't the only ones to learn something new."

Ears
听 This week's edition of Case Notes听 looks into ears.听 Dr Mark Porter鈥檚 guest in the studio is Professor Tony Wright, director of the Ear Institute at University College, London.
One in seven people in the UK suffer from significant hearing problems, and Richard Gledhill, Head of Audiology at the Radcliffe Infirmary explains the technological advantages of digital hearing aids; but also explores the issue of long waiting times.
M茅ni猫re鈥檚 Disease
This condition is relatively rare but causes extreme dizziness in patients which can be incapacitating. ENT Consultant Ian Bottrill discusses the use of an antibiotic which treats this problematic symptom by disabling the balance organs on one side.
Ear reconstruction
Some people are born without ears (microtia); others suffer damage to their ears later in life. Our reporter Claudia Hammond visits Professor David Gault, Consultant Plastic Surgeon, to watch an operation to construct an ear using cartilege taken from the chest. |
