"The gout, corns in the feet, convulsions, madness, fits of the mother, vapors, palsy, lethargy, rheumatisms, wens, ganlgions, king's evil, ague, surfeits, and consumptions are not frequent and barrenness and abortion very rare."
Where is this disease free haven? This is a description of Skye from 'A Description of the Western Isles' (1703) by Martin Martin (so good they named him twice).
Island Blogging is about to expand West and North. Later in October we are to travel to Lewis, Harris, the Uists and as far and wide as a modest 大象传媒 budget can stretch, then on also to Skye and in November (yikes) to Orkney and Shetland.
So if you are from one of these islands and want to get involved - or know someone who might like to start blogging - or want to help spread the word, please get in touch at islandblogging@bbc.co.uk
thanks
Mike

Wens is a sebacious cyst, a white or skin coloured semi solid lump filled with keratin that grows under the skin.
