That`s a fine, beautiful story, though it`s sad the gentleman is ill. I hope they do manage to meet up again. Be nice if some kind of fundraising was put in motion to that end. I ken what Mr.Turner means about the cost of air travel to and from Orkney! :) Great story though.

Isn't that amazing! What a lovely story. The power of Island Blogging, indeed. I too hope that Mr Turner gets to visit his friend.

What a heartwarming tale. It reminded me that my own grandfather (later a coalmine worker in the Welsh Valleys) made a very great friend during the first world war who lived in the Orkney Islands. I believe they kept in touch for a time, and were probably both 'boy' soldiers together in the trenches. I wish I knew who the family are now that I live in Scotland myself. My grandfather's name was Evan Morgan.

Great story Anne.

And we made it on to Radio Orkney too! I hope this means a boost in visitors to IB. Nice one, bloggers.

They had the story on "Radio Orkney" this morning which was fun to hear! The only thing I wish is that the reporters had told about all of the Orkney folks reading Mr. Turner's letter in the papers and then calling Mr. Linklater and trying to help - he said his phone was ringing off the hook from 7am! The people of Orkney are always so willing to help folk.
