Island Blogging posterWith the recent influx of new bloggers I thought it might be worth reminding everyone about our Island Blogging posters and postcards. Featuring one of Sanday Images’ lovely photos (come back Sanday Images, we’d like to hear from you again!), they’re free to a good home.

If there’s somewhere in your community that these could be displayed - a community hall, noticeboard, staffroom, post office or shop, for example – just drop me a line at islandblogging@bbc.co.uk and I’ll send them out to you.

Since Sanday Images isn't blogging so much, maybe you could use one of my recently posted pictures, but you'd need to have all hands on deck, with the massive interest from Ladeeeze of the Islands, maybe not though eh? We don't want IB to go into melt-down, or for the site to crash.

A wee question about Mike Small - ex moderator of the general assembly of island bloggers. Do you know if its the same Mike Small who is talking about the Fife Diet on the Riddoch program?

pondhead from Mull

Hi Pondhead, yes it's him!

Anne from IBHQ

Is the Fife Diet a bit like the Edinburgh one? 'Aye, you'll hev hed your tea.'

Flying Cat from knock-knock-knockin' at heaven's door

Sure you could live on a Fife diet, but why would you want to UNLESS YOU HAD TO?! Flakey gimmicks. How about the other necessities and conveniences of a good (and not necessarily irresponsible) life? Maybe we should put border guards around Fife?

mjc from NM,USA

Hi Anne, thanks for the note. I guess Mikes young one will not be eating at Macdonalds then! I would be happy to use seasonal, locally sourced food and drink if I can afford it in terms of time and money. There is a producers market in Dervaig that is really popular because it’s nice social and the stuff tastes great - not a hint of second best or self-deprivation with fab crabs oysters and veg etc. The market is the key as it makes the buying the stuff easy and fun. Mike's diet is clearly for purists and I guess it may well put a lot people off just because of its worthy tone. A slightly less ethical and worthy approach might encourage many more people to support local producers. I suspect TV chefs banging on about the better flavour and quality of locally produced food will do more for this cause.

mjc, we don't need border guards around Fife, the bridges limit access and egress quite nicely (!)

Come to think of it, I like Fife very much. St. Andrews Botanical is a delight, and Cambo gardens are very pleasant. Anstruther is certainly worth a detour, and the same applies to Melrose.

mjc from NM,USA

Gosh! When did the beggar's mantle fringed with gold invade Melrose? Honestly, those Fifers, there's no stopping them once they get going. See's meh peh!

Flying Cat from a bridge too far

Right, FC., Scottish Borders. I stand corrected. I never look at maps, unlike the women in the family. As I typed yesterday, I did think that Melrose seemed rather some way down the road from St. Andrews/ Edinburgh. Nice expression, I dare say: beggar's mantle... Did the Scots and residents of Fife appreciate that expression from James I & VI? Or was it viewed as condescension

I couldn't put my paw on Albuquerque just like that.

Flying Cat from bordering on insanity, Anne's leaving

Hi island Bloggers! I just finished a lovely Fife dinner - lovely. The idea that you have to eat food from the other side of the world is just wrong. Come see: http://fifediet.wordpress.com/
