Ando has no superpowers of his own, but he plays a key role as Hiro's best friend and side-kick. At first he is sceptical of Hiro's ability but his loyalty to him is unquestionable and he agrees to accompany his friend on his quest to save the world.
Ando discovers that in the future, Sylar kills him (Ando). The only way Hiro can save his life is to stop Sylar. Ando goes after Sylar himself but is easily overpowered. He drops the 9th Wonders! comic book which depicts Sylar being killed by Hiro. Sylar laughs in his face at the suggestion that Hiro could ever defeat him. Hiro arrives just as Sylar is about to kill Ando and teleports him back to Japan. He leaves him there and teleports back to Kirby Plaza to fulfil his destiny of killing Sylar.
At the start of Season 2, Ando returns to New York and waits for Hiro to return, along with Hiro's father Kaito, but there is no sign of Hiro. But Ando discovers that Hiro has sent him messages secretly hidden in Kensei's sword.
