Season 1

Noah Bennet adopted Claire when Meredith Gordon, her mother, was apparently killed in a fire whilst Nathan Petrelli, Claire's biological father, thought Claire was dead. The Company gave her to Mr Bennet with the proviso that he hand Claire back to them if she manifested any special ability. However, he ended up trying to hide her from them. Claire had a key role to play in Season 1 when Peter was given the cryptic instruction, "Save the cheerleader, save the world."

Season 2

On the run from The Company, The Bennets were living as 'The Butlers' in Costa Verde, California. Claire had just met West and discovered that, as a child, he had met her adoptive dad (Mr Bennet aka H.R.G). When the two men eventually met and - after some scary flying stuff - they learned to trust each other. H.R.G was shot dead, and that's when Claire finally realised how much she cared for him. After his memorial service, Claire confronted Elle and revealed her plan to tell the world about her amazing powers.

Season 3

Having learnt more from both Peter and Angela about the formula for creating superpowers, Claire realised she was the catalyst. But after Hiro saved her from the evil clutches of Sylar, and took her back 16 years, she stopped her baby-self from being given the catalyst. Claire wasn't finished with Sylar and back in Primatech she stabbed him in the vulnerable part of his brain. In Volume 4, Claire used her free pass to help others who were being hunted down by Nathan and Danko. In the end she helped her biological dad do the right thing and they returned as part of Angela's grand plan. Claire was pivotal in saving the President, talking his security staff into letting Peter act as a decoy.

Season 4

Claire started university, looking to find herself; and quickly made a new friend, Gretchen. Things soon went to pieces when her annoying roommate Annie appeared to jump out of a window and kill herself. Claire threw herself out of the same window to see whether the suicide was possible, but her secret was out as Gretchen witnessed Claire popping her ribs back in. H.R.G visited and wanted to erase Gretchen's memory but Claire persuaded him not to - she was glad to have a friend she could be completely honest with. When she was attacked and Gretchen started acting suspiciously, Claire jumped to conclusions. But Gretchen spilled her real secret when she shocked Claire with a kiss. Claire's ability came out in the open when Becky tried to kill Gretchen during a sorority hazing. Finding Claire too dangerous Gretchen moved out leaving Claire alone. Feeling vulnerable Samuel took his chance to sway Claire into believing a life with his Carnival family would be her best option. At the Bennet Thanksgiving dinner Claire stole H.R.G's compass, and ended up being guided towards the Carnival. Here she contemplated her life, but instead discovered Samuel's secret plans for his Carnival family. He was building a new Valley home for the family. Claire decided that although his intentions appeared good she wanted to return home. Receiving a phone call from H.R.G she was distraught to find out her biological father, Nathan, had died. At the funeral Angela asked Claire to look after Peter, as he was struggling to cope with his brother's death. After saving his life she returned to college, unaware that Sylar had found her yet again. Tricking her into thinking he'd kidnapped her roommate, Sylar forced Claire into helping him battle his biggest fear - ending up alone. Showing Claire how similar they both were, helped her see how much Gretchen meant to her. However, Claire ignored Gretchen's advice to try and live a normal life, and returned to the Carnival after discovering her dad's plans to confront Samuel. Having taken H.R.G hostage, Samuel revealed to Claire her dad's secret memories of his past in the hope she would turn against him. Sticking by her dad, Samuel buried them together in a trailer underground. With seconds to go before H.R.G suffocated, Tracey saved them both, leaving Claire to reveal to the Family that Samuel murdered Lydia. Having helped save New York, Claire decided it was time to reveal her power to the world, jumping off a Ferris wheel in front of a national news team.
