Niki's troubled husband DL has the ability to phase through solid objects. He managed to escape from prison by walking through the walls. He was inside for stealing two million dollars, something he didn't do. Jessica, (Niki's alter ego), had framed DL. At this point, DL was unaware of Niki's split personality so blamed her and took Micah away.

Niki realised Jessica was a danger and turned herself in to the police. DL supported Niki while she was locked up and when she returned, Jessica was the dominant personality. She was also working as an assassin for Linderman. When Linderman snatched Micah, DL and Niki went to his office at Kirby Plaza. They confronted Linderman but he shot at Niki. DL jumped in front of her and took the bullet. DL then killed Linderman. Niki saved Micah and they all made their way out of the building where Sylar and Peter had come face to face. At the end of Season 1, DL was wounded but alive.

In Season 2 DL was trying to make a better life for Niki and Micah and they were all doing really well. He was now a fireman that won medals for his bravery and to Micah he was a true hero. Then Gina turned up. DL found himself on a plane to LA to find his wife, who had gone awol. Discovering her in a nightclub he got into a fight. It only took one shot - but it was fatal and DL was no more.
