In Season 1, Hiro discovers he has the ability to manipulate space and time and teleports to New York. He finds a comic book called 9th Wonders in which he appears. He goes to see the artist Isaac Mendez and finds him dead. Hiro is arrested and discovers he has travelled not only through space, but through time as well - he's in the future. Just as he discovers this, he witnesses a cataclysmic explosion. Before the blast reaches him, Hiro jumps back in time.

Having had a glimpse of the future, Hiro decides that he must save the world by preventing the explosion. He comes face to face with his future self who tells him that Sylar exploded and destroyed the city and it's now a dark place. He has spent the last five years trying to work out the exact moment in time he needs to go back to change history. He explains that he stabbed Sylar but he regenerated as he'd taken Claire's power. So he realised the key to saving the world was saving the cheerleader. At the end of Season 1, with Claire safe, Hiro manages to stab Sylar. But before he collapses, Sylar hurls Hiro at a building.

Season 2 picks up where Hiro landed - in 17th century Japan. He has the unfortunate task of turning a drunken Englishman into a hero worthy of the tales.
