Maya and her twin brother Alejandro are fugitives wanted for mass murder, on the run from their home in the Dominican Republic. Maya has the ability to create a deadly illness in anyone nearby. Her ability's triggered when she's stressed, but she can willingly activate her power if she wishes.

Maya panic's when Alejandro is captured by the police. Setting him free, the deadly duo hitch a ride with Derek and come across Gabriel Gray. It doesn't take long for Maya to fall under the charms of Gabriel. He soon has her controlling her own power, without the aid of her brother. However Gabriel or Sylar decides to shoot Maya dead, but with the help of Claire's blood she is soon brought back to life.

Dania Ramirez moved with her family to New York City when she was ten years old. Always the performer, she was eager to make it in the entertainment business. Although she was discovered while working in retail, she started modelling and taking acting classes which eventually paid off.

Ramirez has come a long way from her native Dominican Republic, where her dreams of acting began. She made her film debut in Spike Lee's The Subway Stories, and has gradually built her career from there, appearing in X-Men: The Last Stand, Cross Bronx, and The Sopranos.
