Name: Plumby
Age: 23Yrs
Job: Graphic Design
Years Surfing: 3 years
Boards: I use a 9'4" in all conditions, from 1ft to 8ft. My style has remained consistently bad for the last 3 years. A while back I broke my wrist so I had to adopt a new method of getting up on the board so Iused one arm and my head, I am having trouble shaking this method even though my arm is now better.
Local Break: Porthcawl, Freshwest for the weekends.
Places Surfed: All of Pembs (apart from Y Bocs), Porthcawl area beaches and South France.
Favourite Surf Films: er.. 100ft Wednesday is a good film for big wave surfing. I once tried to make one of me and my mates until I realised none of us could surf and I didn't have a camera... Endless Summer II is my favourite.
Worst Wipeout: I nearly died learning to surf several times, the arrogance of my youth had me heading onto the reef in Manorbier, chaffing various bits of mybody and board. I skewed my toe on some reef in Freshwest last Saturday which was the most painful by far. But I think the winner has to be surfing in Biarritz in waves far to big for me. I ended up on the beach with a rash vest, mouth and bum-crack full of sand with my board about 100 metres down the beach.
Favourite Manoeuvre: Like when you paddle, catch the wave, then stand up.
Worst Surfing Habit: Getting in the way of old-men long boarders for fun, just to hear them swear.
Best Surfing Experience: Mid-Summer sesh in Freshwest. Perfect weather, only four people out, 5ft clean waves and 3 hours left of sunlight.
Weirdest Surfing Experience: Seeing some bloke surf on a bit of Ply-wood.
Other Interests: Photography, running a surfing 'e-zine' and mountain biking.
