6 major stars who prefer life as an introvert
Celebrities are usually the last people you'd expect to be introverts. After all, if you're used to red carpet appearances or performing on stage for millions of people, can you really be shy?
The answer is, yes. In a recent interview for Vogue, Zayn said: "'I'm not a very outgoing, social person, like, in terms of a big group of people."
And being an introvert hasn't exactly held him back, has it?
Zayn isn't the only world-famous star who is a self-confessed introvert, some of our favourite stars prefer to shun the spotlight and it hasn't changed their lives one bit. We've taken a look at some of the most shy superstar celebrities, below.
1. Emma Watson

Belle herself discusses the brand new live-action remake with Radio 1's Ali Plumb.
Whether she's working on the 'frow' or delivering a speech on gender equality to the UN, Emma Watson never seems less than comfortable in public. But the reality is that the assured star is also an introvert.
"I’m kind of an introverted kind of person just by nature, it’s not like a conscious choice that I’m making necessarily, it's genuinely who I am," she told Rookie. "Coming to realize that about myself was very empowering, because I had felt like Oh my god, there must be something wrong with me, because I don’t want to go out and do what all my friends want to do.”
2. Alessia Cara
Canadian pop star Alessia Cara has seen her track Here, a song written about hating being at a party, become something of an anthem for introverts.
"People turned it into this song that speaks for a demographic that doesn’t have a voice, like introverts and people who feel different," she told Billboard.
"All of a sudden my music became way more, and it wasn’t just mine any more."
3. Lorde
Melodrama singer Lorde always seems incredibly comfortable on stage. Nevertheless, like many creative people, she sees herself as an introvert.
"I'm really a shy, library person,” she told Vanity Fair. “I’m an introvert, a writer—just trying to translate what’s inside my chest.”

4. Lady Gaga
The lobster hat wearing, Super Bowl and Glastonbury headlining megastar Lady Gaga hardly seems like the type to suffer with confidence issues - in any situation. But the singer is one of many who prefer to remain in the company of those they know well.
"People think I'm really confident but I'm actually quite shy and insecure," she told The Daily Star. "I never want to talk to anyone at the big celebrity functions because I don't know anyone and I'm shy and get awkward. I like my real friends around me so that's why wearing the meat dress was so great because it stunk and no one wanted to talk to me."
Well, that's one way of avoiding awkward small talk Gaga....
5. Lana Del Rey
She's always been one of the most enigmatic pop stars in the business, so it's kind of no surprise to hear that Lana Del Rey responds to people who are similarly happy in their own company.
"When you’re an introvert like me and you’ve been lonely for a while, and then you find someone who understands you, you become really attached to them," she told Complex. "It's a real release."
What do Lana Del Rey’s fans always ask her?
About her hair, every time… and they like it big!
6. Amy Schumer
Comedian and actress Amy Schumer positively oozes self confidence - and always seems like she'd be a great laugh to hang around with. For all that, she is happy to call herself an introvert at the same time.
"Being an introvert doesn’t mean you’re shy," she wrote in her memoir, The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo. "It means you enjoy being alone. Not just enjoy it— you need it. If you’re a true introvert, other people are basically energy vampires. You don’t hate them; you just have to be strategic about when you expose yourself to them— like the sun."
