Five celebrities we never knew wanted to be pop stars

If you're sat somewhere day-dreaming about a pop career, then rest assured - you're not the only one.

And it's not just everyday people in everyday jobs who fancy themselves as a popstar - royals, models, actors, sports stars and drag queens all want in on the act as well.

Here are five stars we never knew fancied a career in music - until they surprised us all.

Prince Harry

Harry Windsor is (or so we thought) very busy with his princely duties. He is the patron of the Invictus Games, works with a number of other charities and spent ten years serving in the British army.

Yet somehow, he has been hanging out with The Killers in their studio for a decade.

The unlikely friendship between the Prince and the Las Vegas band was confirmed by drummer Ronnie Vannucci in an interview with The Sun newspaper, telling the tabloid the band have had "a lot of long nights" with the royal.

"He just showed up at a show one time and we got along. I mean, it's been ten years I guess," says Ronnie.

Cara Delevingne

Model, actress and now singer: Cara Delevingne is a true triple threat in the job market. Lady pop stars be warned, she's coming for your chart positions next.

As well as starring in sci-fi blockbuster Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Cara also appears on the soundtrack to perform I Feel Everything, which was produced by Pharrell Williams. And of course, like her parallel celebrity careers, she excels.

, she even chose to play the song when Nick Grimshaw handed the DJ spot over to Cara.

Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton is one of the world's most famous (and most profitable) sports stars but he's wanted to be a musician for five years or more.

The Formula 1 superstar first started talking about his musical ambition in 2012, but he is yet to release any music. This is despite having worked with the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Tinie Tempah and Jay Z in the studio.

In July 2016, UK rapper and producer Angel told The Sun newspaper Lewis was yet to record a standout song.

"I don’t think he actually feels like he’s got that one song yet that he really wants to come out with and say, ‘Here I am’," he told the tabloid.

One sports star who did find "that one song" is Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho, who released his single Sozinho in March 2017.

Hailee Steinfeld

Hailee Steinfeld was nominated for an Oscar for her role in 2010 movie True Grit and was building a career for herself in Hollywood, but she wanted something more.

She appeared in Pitch Perfect 2 in the same year she launched her pop career with her single Love Myself. She has collaborated with DNCE and Zedd and scored a string of hits, including global smash Starving.

And while Hailee is still making movies (she's landed the human lead - not the car - in Transformers sequel Bumblebee), she is in music for the long run.

"I feel like I’m just getting started, and 10 years from now I will still feel like I am just getting started," she told Billboard magazine in June 2017.

"I’m very excited for everybody to hear what’s coming, because even that is very different from what I’m doing now."

Trixie Mattel

Many of the stars of RuPaul's Drag Race have gone on to release music (most notably Alaska and Adore Delano) but Trixie Mattel was an unexpected addition to the reality show's musical alumni.

Trixie (real name Brian Firkus) starred on series six in 2015, but didn't break into music until 2017 - and impressed the world when she did. Brian had previously attempted a music career in in 2009, before becoming Trixie.

Trixie released a folk/country album Two Birds in 2017 and was surprised by the positive critical response to the record.

"Music has always been a hobby for my own fulfilment and something I did before I was a flaming cross dresser," she told OC Weekly.

"People like me for being a comedian, not a musician."

But the album reached No.2 on US iTunes, proving there's more to Trixie Mattel than cracking jokes and not winning talent shows.
