7 times celebs flawlessly shut down the haters

Ed Sheeran has well and truly had enough of trolls

You won't be seeing tweets from Ed anytime soon.

Bad news, Sheerios: Ed Sheeran has officially quit Twitter. Don't worry, we're just as upset as you are.

Speaking to The Sun, the Glasto headliner cited trolls as the main reason for retiring his tweeting fingers once and for all: "I've actually come off Twitter completely. I can't read it. I go on it and there's nothing but people saying mean things. One comment ruins your day. But that's why I've come off it."

The good news? Ed's Twitter account is still up and running (there's still hope, people), so that fans can keep up to date on all things Ed related - think new music, tour dates and announcements - but Sheeran himself won't be the tweeter.

But Ed isn't the first celebrity to feel the wrath of unwarranted negativity online and, while his approach to battling the trolls isn't unique (Bieber famously left Instagram last year after being bombarded with mean comments about his then-girlfriend Sofia Richie), it's a little different to the way the following stars handled the haters. Here's a lesson in shutting down the hate like a pro from 7 stars...

J.K. Rowling

Unexpected queen of the clapbacks? None other than Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling. And it just so happens that her last name provides the perfect gateway for a Chamillionaire lyrical reference.

Gabby Sidibe

Star of the 2009 Academy Award-nominated movie Precious, Gabby Sidibe succinctly shut down mean comments made about her appearance on the Golden Globes red carpet. Moral of the story: ain't nobody got time for negativity when they're living their dreams.

Stormzy

Stormzy - Big For Your Boots

Stormzy performs Big For Your Boots at Glastonbury 2017

Not long after it was announced that Little Mix and Stormzy were collaborating for their new single Power, some fans scrambled to criticise the grime artist for 'selling out'. Stormzy's response? The cry-laughing emoji in abundance, natch.

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande is pretty vocal when it comes to spreading love and positivity, so it was hardly surprising when the singer made a point of schooling body image trolls who compared her figure to that of Modern Family's Ariel Winter. In the words of Ariana: "LOVE LOVE LOVE ONLY."

Gigi Hadid

When supermodel Gigi Hadid received the tweet "practice how to walk properly instead of having a new bf every 2 weeks", she responded with this smackdown. Who she dates and how often she dates is nobodies business but her own, but she eloquently shut down the troll with some facts all the same.

Justin Bieber

Two words: hi haterz. All hail, Justin Bieber.

P!nk

Another day, another celeb on the receiving end of body criticism. Back in 2K15, P!nk responded to unjustifiable comments about her body via the Notes section of her phone.

"So, my good and concerned peoples, please don't worry about me. I'm not worried about me. And I'm not worried about you either:)"

And does this exquisite response feature potentially the best sign-off ever? We think so.

Love, cheesecake.
