The best moments from JAY-Z's album listening party
The JAY-Z 4:44 Album Listening Party with Ace and Adele Roberts
Listen to the listening party for one of this year鈥檚 most anticipated hip hop records.
JAY-Z’s new album 4.44 has apparently gone platinum in less than a week, which called for a celebration.
Radio 1 and 1Xtra thought about making Jigga a cake...but instead, joined forces to remind everyone that there’s only one way to fully appreciate an amazing new album. By holding a , online, where eeeeeeeveryone’s invited.
As Adele Roberts and Ace played out every single track, you tweeted and texted in your thoughts. And some of you were enjoying Jay’s new record in some brilliantly unusual situations...
Adele was bowled over by the mature vibe of track The Story of O.J, saying, “we’ve all just listened to every single lyric on that track. Stunning, stunning work.”
Everyone was also really touched by Smile, which features Jay’s Mum and reveals she has decided to go public about finding love in a same sex relationship
It’s the second time that Jay has put his Mum on an album. “I wonder if she gets paid for that?” mused Adele.
The track 4.44 was always going to get us talking, as it seems like it might potentially be both a reaction to Beyonce’s Lemonade and an apology for cheating on her. Woah!
As Adele said, “They never confirm or deny anything, they just do it through music – what a move."
Remember those recent pictures of JAY-Z in Jamaica? Or maybe you couldn’t look at them as they made you too jealous…(just us?) Well, turns out that Hova was linking up with Damien Marley, and together they made sweet music in the form of Bam, the album’s biggest party track. And it got some people VERY hyped up on Twitter, in the best possible way.
It was soon time to switch down for some more serious, socially conscious vibes again, with the track Moonlight. “The lyricism,” said Adele, amazed. “No wonder he’s in the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame.”
Closing track Legacy talked about just that, Jay’s legacy. And it seems that the listening party experienced had convinced quite a few that the rapper had confirmed himself the G.O.A.T.
“Awesome,” said Ace, “I think this has cemented it. I don’t think there’s a better rapper than JAY-Z.”
Will 4:44 be JAY-Z's last album?
Adele and Ace wonder if 4:44 points to an upcoming retirement...
