Muse talk naked oil paintings, gigs in space and lemurs with Annie Mac

Muse co-host the show with Annie and chat about Muse on ice, smashing guitars and sheep!

In case you missed it, something pretty major happened this week: Muse joined in the studio. (We told you it was major!) If you missed this momentous moment in co-hosting history then don't fear, you can listen to hour-long chat in its entirety , right now.

From bizarre fan gifts (naked oil painting, anyone?) to the super secretive plans behind their headline set at Reading Festival, it's safe to say that we learned a lot about Matt Bellamy and Dominic Howard during their co-hosting duties. Here's 7 of our favourite revelations...

1. Matt is a glassblower (well, sort of)

The guys are enjoying some well-deserved downtime after touring the US and Matt has been spending a lot of his days in Devon. What does the frontman of a world-renowned rock band do in Devon on his days off? Glassblowing, duh.

"I was in Devon for about 4-5 days. I learned how to blow glass and make glass vases. That was fascinating."

2. They've got a complicated relationship with lemurs

More specifically: Matt has a complicated relationship with the word 'lemur'. Don't quite understand what we mean? Listen to the clip above and then join us as we unofficially petition to change the pronunciation of the word. (OK, there's no such petition. But 'le-muuuhr' just sounds so much jazzier, y'know?)

3. Matt's notorious guitar swinging has caused some injuries

According to the Guinness World Records, the Muse frontman holds the record for the most guitars smashed on tours. That's pretty rock and roll, right?

But with great guitar smashing comes great injury, as told by Dom: "He's smashed me round the head with a guitar so many times. He swings it round - like full arm circles - and it goes up in the air and it can land anywhere and it's landed on my head a few times. I put my arm up once and it smashed my arm - I thought I'd broken my arm. I ended up going hospital but fortunately it was only a bruise..."

4. They're received some pretty kooky fan gifts

As far as kooky, borderline bizarre gifts go, it seems like the guys of Muse have received their fair share. Matt's weirdest? An annotated religious text, of course...

"Someone gave me the Holy Bible. I believe it was in Kansas. They'd circled loads of passages that they thought related to songs that I'd written and they said that my songs came from the Bible and I didn't realise."

And Dom's? An oil painting of a naked Matt. We kid you not. Listen and learn, people.

5. Dom's a big Bruno Mars fan

And who can blame him?

"I'm a big fan of the Mars. I was at a Grammy's party a few years ago - and it was probably a little bit before he became superfamous - he was the band playing at the Grammy's party. But he didn't play any of his own songs, he was just playing mash ups. Y'know, Prince, Smells Like Teen Spirit and it was, all respects to him, the best wedding band you could ever go for. And he's an incredible guitarist, like shredding on the guitar."

Note to self: from here on out, Bruno Mars shall forever be referred to as The Mars.

6. Muse On Ice isn't off the cards...

Where does a Glastonbury headliner go after they've played the Pyramid Stage three times? What's bigger than Glasto? Space, perhaps? These are the serious questions Annie was tackling with Matt and Dom, and their answers might surprise you...

"I don't think anything is off limits... I heard about - who's the geezer who was in, was it Emerson, Lake & Palmer, who was the keyboard player? He did a show called King Arthur On Ice. Have you heard about it? People before us have gone further than us. He did King Arthur On Ice and it was basically him on the middle with a keyboard, playing King Arthur, and loads of ice skaters around him reenacting it. Muse On Ice."

We're in.

7. They've got something special lined up for Reading Festival...

Working up from their debut on The Premier Stage back in 1999, Muse are headlining this year's Reading Festival (their fourth appearance at the festival) and it seems like they might have something extra special up their sleeve...

"We'll do something to make it a bit different, I think. We might get a guest onstage or something and do something a little bit different. We're going to do something special, I think."
